Crude Gave Back 2% on Monday. Gold Held $4,000 Anyway.

A report put Qatari mediators in Tehran on Sunday and the oil risk premium started coming out. Gold added 0.51% in the same session. Both cannot be reading this week correctly.

The Breakdown
Oil is pricing a calmer Middle East. Gold is pricing a Fed that cannot cut. Thursday settles the argument.

01
The premium came out
December crude fell $2.10 to $101.17 by Monday morning, down 2.03%. It had settled Friday at $103.27, up 3.82% on the day.
02
Gold went the other way
Spot gold added $20.30 to $4,028.20, up 0.51%. The 10-year Treasury yield rose about three basis points to 4.99%.
03
Three prints in 72 hours
The Fed decides Wednesday with the funds rate expected to hold at 3.75% to 4.00%. GDP and core PCE both land Thursday.

Green Coffee Company farms in Colombia
Thirty-five years pricing physical assets taught me one distinction I now use on everything. Stock demand or flow demand.
Gold is stock. Nearly every ounce ever pulled out of the ground still exists, sitting in a vault or a drawer or around somebody’s neck. Demand for it is a decision to hold.
Coffee is flow. It is grown, shipped, roasted, brewed and gone. Seventy-three percent of Americans drink it daily. That demand does not have to be persuaded. It has to be supplied, again, tomorrow morning.
I looked at a private producer this week on that basis.
Green Coffee Company farms 45 properties in Colombia, more than 10,000 acres. Projected harvest this year: 5.1 million pounds of unroasted coffee. Last year: 2.3 million. Milling capacity above a million pounds a week, the largest in the country.
The flow already has somewhere to go. 3,000+ stores. 130+ grocery chains. 21 states. Walgreens live in 1,700 locations. Private label into Carnival Cruise Line, the U.S. National Parks and the UFC. You have very likely drunk the product already without knowing whose farm it came off.
Revenue: $1 million in 2021. $26 million in 2025.
My read. A metal position pays you nothing and asks nothing; you hold it and wait for the regime to change. A flow asset pays you only if the operator keeps executing, every harvest, every shelf reset, every quarter. Different risk entirely. Do not confuse the two because both come out of the ground.
Terms: $1.15 a share, $1,000.50 minimum, no accreditation, up to 20% bonus shares at higher tiers. Unlisted, illiquid, transfers restricted, total loss possible. Size it like growth equity, because that is what it is.
The metal waits for you. The harvest does not.

Two hedges, one inflation question, and three days to settle it

What the Headlines Lead With

Reports on Sunday placed Qatari mediators in Tehran, in an effort said to be coordinated with Washington. No government has confirmed the visit. When Iranian media reported the same thing last Tuesday, the Tasnim agency denied it.

Oil read it as barrels coming back. December crude fell $2.10 to $101.17 by Monday morning, a drop of 2.03%, after settling Friday at $103.27. Equity futures took the news well. S&P 500 futures sat at 7,673.00, up 0.17%, with Dow futures up 0.36% and Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.10%.

Gold did the opposite. Spot added $20.30 to $4,028.20 and held the $4,000 line. The 10-year Treasury yield rose about three basis points to 4.99%, which usually works against the metal. A record share of central banks told the World Gold Council this year that they intend to add reserves. Nothing has been signed in Tehran and no barrel has moved. The market priced a report rather than a result.

Gold Skimming
A former hedge fund manager ranked in the top 1% by Barron’s has developed a three-step strategy to profit from gold, without buying a single ounce.
His followers have had the chance to collect $2,975… $3,781… and even $6,786 at a time. With a 73% win rate.
He calls it “Gold Skimming.” And he’s just revealed the full strategy for the first time.
Why It Matters

Oil and gold usually agree about inflation. Both rise when money looks less safe and both fall when the scare passes. This week they split.

Crude is priced off barrels, and these barrels are specific. The Strait of Hormuz normally carries about 20 million barrels a day. Shipments through it are down more than 90% since Iran declared a prohibited zone in September. A US naval blockade of Iranian ports has run since April. On Saturday Tehran signalled through Pakistani mediators that it would reopen the strait if that blockade were lifted. That is the trade oil was pricing on Monday.

Gold is priced off the dollar and the real yield, and neither changed on Sunday. The Fed meets Wednesday with the funds rate at 3.75% to 4.00% and a hold close to fully priced. A central bank that cannot cut while prices sit above target is the condition gold trades on. A plane to Tehran does nothing to that.

What It Means for Your Money

If oil is right, the relief arrives at the pump and arrives slowly. Retail gasoline follows crude by two to three weeks, so one session does not reach a forecourt.

If gold is right, the cost arrives slower and larger. A Fed held above 3.75% keeps mortgage quotes near where they are, tracking the 10-year at 4.99%. The useful step is knowing which number you are exposed to. A variable payment is exposed to the Fed. A long commute is exposed to the barrel.

The argument over what gold is really pricing runs a good deal longer than one Fed meeting. A partner of ours makes that case below.

Love him or hate him, and if you’re reading this, you love him, Trump plays to win.
He won in 2016 when nobody thought he could.
He came back in 2024 when they threw everything they had at him.
And right now, he’s preparing what insiders are calling the most consequential financial executive order any American president has considered in over 50 years.
This isn’t about tariffs. It’s not about the border.
It’s about something that touches every dollar in your pocket, your savings account, and your retirement.
The last time Washington made a move like this:
One asset gained 2,300% in under 10 years.
The people who saw it coming changed their financial lives forever.
This time the stakes are even higher.
The U.S. is sitting on 8,133 tonnes of gold valued at 1973 prices.
One executive order from Trump corrects that, and sets off the biggest wealth transfer most living Americans have ever witnessed.
Trump’s base has always been the people the system forgot. Hard-working Americans who played by the rules while Washington rigged the game.
This is your chance to get ahead of it, before the order is signed, using the same strategy the ultra-wealthy have always used.
The Day Ahead

The Fed announces Wednesday afternoon and no new projections come with this meeting. Alphabet and Microsoft report after the close that day and Amazon follows Thursday. Around a third of the S&P 500 reports this week.

Thursday carries the weight. The advance estimate of third quarter GDP is seen near 3.0%, after 2.2%. September core PCE lands the same morning near 3.1% year over year. The ECB decides Thursday too, where a hold at 2.50% is close to fully priced.

Watch the two prices against each other rather than on their own. If crude keeps falling while gold holds, the inflation problem is domestic rather than imported. That is the harder version, and the one the Fed cannot fix by waiting.

The midterms land eight days from today. Reporting last week said US strike options have been prepared for after that vote. The president is weighing them against a deal. If that is right, the premium that came out of crude on Monday may be early. Watch whether Friday’s close still holds above $100.

A diplomat can put barrels back on the water inside a week. Nobody puts 3.1% back in the box that fast.
